This matter has been researched since the 1990s. When deciding on the route, we have sought a compromise between the number of passengers and travel times.
The decision on the route was locked in the preliminary master plan. However, in this plan, the route ran to Tapiola via Laajalahti.
Prompted by the communities operating in Otaniemi, the City of Espoo studied whether Otaniemi could be connected to Jokeri Light Rail. After the study, it was decided that the project planning in Espoo would continue based on a route from Leppävaara to Otaniemi and Keilaniemi. This route reaches more passengers in Espoo without making travel times longer.
